Clearview Township, Simcoe County

New Lowell

New Lowell is a small rural community in Clearview Township, Simcoe County, Ontario. It sits on County Road 9 between Stayner to the north and the Essa Township border to the south, in the rolling farmland of the Nottawasaga Valley. The population of the community itself is only a few hundred people, though the surrounding rural area adds to that.

This is agricultural country. The landscape is open fields, mixed woodlots, and the kind of quiet that city people romanticize until they realize how dark it gets at night and how far the nearest grocery store is. New Lowell has a community hall, a volunteer fire station, a few small businesses, and the New Lowell Snowmobile Club, which tells you something about what winter entertainment looks like.

The Canadian Forces Base Borden (CFB Borden) is nearby, about 10 minutes east on Highway 90. The base is a significant employer in the area and has been part of the local landscape since 1916. Many military families live in the communities surrounding Borden, including New Lowell, Angus, and Brentwood.

New Lowell falls under Clearview Township for municipal services, which means your property taxes, roads, water, building permits, and waste collection all go through the township office in Stayner. Barrie is about 30 minutes southeast on Highway 90 and County Road 9. Collingwood and the Blue Mountain ski area are about 30 minutes northwest. The community sits in between, connected to both but defined by neither.
